Elko Youth Support Harbor House through Souper Bowl of Caring
More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.” Since that day, more than $60 million has been raised for local charities across the country through the Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that is transforming Super Bowl Weekend into the nation’s largest youth-led weekend of giving and serving.
Happy New Year!
From all the staff here at C.A.D.V. we want to wish all of you a Happy New Year! A huge Thank You goes out to everyone who helped adopt a family for Christmas, and also to the Foursquare Baptist church for supplying food and drinks for the annual Harbor House Christmas party. The kids had an awesome time with Santa, receiving their presents from the man in red, and eating all the cookies, goodies, and drinks, they could handle. They loved it. Again thank you all.

On August 12, 2010 I received a phone call from one of my dearest friends in Reno (also named Pam). She asked if I remembered Evelyn from Rainbow. I answered, “of course,” and we laughed at how she always followed us wherever we went. Evelyn was in the same assembly I was in. Pam and I were older than her however, we enjoyed being around her. It was fun to watch her blossom, when she first joined she was shy but it did not take long for her to show the fun loving person she was.

Teen Dating Violence
As many as 1 in 3 teens has been abused in a relationship, according to a June 2009 survey of more than 3,000 youths by DoSomething.org, a national organization dedicated to teenagers and social change. According to the same survey, most stay in the relationship after the first act of violence.
The abuse often starts with teasing and name calling, which many youngsters believe to be normal part of a relationship, according to the centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But that behavior can lead to more serious abuse.
